Virtual Excursion:
THE FOREST OF PUERTO RICO

The Diverse Forests of Puerto Rico
Discover how the island’s climate shaped its forest and biodiversity
Puerto Rico is a tropical archipelago with a very diverse climate. On its 3,500 square miles we find El Yunque, one of the most humid forests on the planet, but just 75 miles apart from it there is the Guanica Dry Forest with 10 times less precipitation. This diverse climate fosters a rich biodiversity of birds, reptiles and amphibians many of them endemic to Puerto Rico.
On this virtual excursion we will learn about the native flora and fauna of the island visiting 5 forests with unique characteristics. Also, we will evaluate the effect of climate change and human intervention on local ecosystems and learn of various efforts to conserve these precious natural resources.
